Information & Communication Technologies (ICT)

ICT and computers have become an integral part of the teaching and learning practises at North Shore Primary school. Teachers regularly use a range of ICT technology to plan and deliver engaging lessons to all our students.

A number of Learning spaces throughout the school have interactive whiteboards that are used on a daily basis as a teaching and learning tool to inspire our students. Teachers regularly meet and plan activities to engage students and provide them with many opportunities to use different technologies throughout the day such as digital still and video cameras, and more recently i-Pods.

Each Learning Centre (Prep-2 and Years 3-6) has access to Macbooks as well as a number of desktop computers available for students to use throughout the day for individual or group work. The Macbooks are linked up to the school’s network and children can work in a number of learning spaces (both inside and outside) with different students from across the school and beyond.

Students have access to a number of programs that can support their learning. On top of the word-processing applications, (such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint students regularly use:

  • the internet to gather information during the literacy block
  • Garageband where students can create their own music to compliment projects.
  • Photo Booth which encourages students to use their imagination and compliment their work with pictures.
  • Web-based technologies that allow students to create their own web page and teach others how to make web pages.
  • Secure social networking sites that allow students to communicate with others outside of school hours and work on online projects.

The school has subscribed to a number of learning site including Ziptales (a literacy support site and Mathletics. Teachers plan and use these sites to engage students and reinforce important skills.

North Shore primary school is a part of the Corio-Norlane Federation Professional Learning Teams and teachers from across the schools in the Northern suburbs if Geelong meet every 4 weeks and share the many ways they use ICT in their classrooms. This commitment has ensured that North Shore is continually up to date with the best practises in ICT and that our students benefit from this.

Our ICT programs are supported by our friendly, overworked technician Conor Vahland.
